What is a Nutritional Assessment? | Quick Tip

My name is Rebekah Hunter, and I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, certified as a consultant through the board of Nutritional Consultants of Canada (NCOC). My practice is in Sidney, B.C., Canada. I consult to local clients as well as over the Internet to clients all over the world on matters of nutritional well-being. If you would like further information about my services, please drop me a line.

Why Should you Be Nutritionally Evaluated?

Attention to good health and well-being is of interest to us all. Growing old is an inevitable process, but ageing with your health in top notch form and preventing disease are in part due to the care we invest in our bodies now.

Optimal Health includes regular exercise, sleep, stress management and a diet of living, whole foods. Unfortunately many of us are creatures of habit, and although we think we eat healthy and exercise regularly, on closer inspection, we do not. Days can go by unnoticed and often meals are forgotten or hastily prepared without proper care to what we are ingesting as the fuel for our bodies. Essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients are often replaced with processed, fast, empty foods and our bodies reap the sad results.

If you are tired of feeling run-down, catching all the latest colds and flu-bugs, pains and aches where there never used to be any... then you are in need of a nutritional analysis. You might be very surprised at how well you do everything else in life, EXCEPT take care of yourself. Even if you feel no different than you did last year at this time, it might come as a revelation to you that the symptoms you have grown accustomed to such as acne, oily skin, brittle nails, excessive hair loss, poor stomach digestion, bad PMS and failing memory - these can all be helped by a change in your diet and lifestyle.

What is a Nutritional Assessment?

For my assessments I use the Nutri-Body Questionnaire, compiled and trade marked by Dr. David Rowland, editor of the magazine "Health Naturally" and author of many noted books on a variety of health topics. This questionnaire contains many different sections, each addressing a different set of symptoms such as 'dry, brittle nails, diarrhea without apparent cause, anemia, excessive fluid retention or bloating', and each corresponding to a specific nutritional need. You select the symptoms that apply to you from each section, and the degree to which you feel them.

When you have finished, your answers are emailed to me, and I then analyse the results and send you a complete, detailed description of my findings along with advice pertaining to each area of concern in your body (i.e.. overactive thyroid, foods to incorporate into your diet, helpful herb's etc.). I will also analyse your answers on the lifestyle assessment form and help you to adjust your life in order to achieve better balance and well-being.

Craving a salty, crunchy snack? Put down that bag of potatoe chips and reach for a healthier 'crunch'. A small (as in 3 1/2 oz) bag of potatoe chips packs 35 grams of fat (315 calories), a major part of your daily allowance - plus a large amount of salt which absorbs water and swells up your cells causing 'fluid retention' or that bloated feeling.

Instead, reach for one of these satisfying crunchie munchies.....

  • unsalted pretzels
  • air-popped popcorn
  • rice cakes
  • toasted pita bread
  • fresh cut-up vegetables with dip such as hummus or tzatziki
  • fresh cut-up fruit with fruit dip such as yogurt
