1 - Get the most nutrition out of your fruits and vegetables:
- Prepare them just before you eat them.
- Cook with skins on.
- Steam or roast.
- Cook very briefly-the longer you cook them the more vitamins and minerals you lose.
- Cook large chunks rather than small pieces.
- Cover and refrigerate juices after opening, drink as soon as possible.
- Eat them raw whenever possible.
2 - Beware the saturated fat in red meat. It will clog your arteries and cause heart attacks. Not sure that you believe that there is much saturated fat in the meat that you eat? Next time you eat red meat, put the cooked leftovers in the fridge overnight (roasts etc). Check out the fat on it the next morning. Is it white, hard and you can crack it with a knife? Imagine this traveling through your narrow little arteries.....no wonder it slows your blood flow and stops up your artery like a clogged toilet. If coagulated hard fat can clog your sink, think of what it does inside of you!!! Chicken fat is a little softer and fish fat is oily and liquid. Fish contain polyunsaturated fat which LOWERS blood cholesterol and contains essential fatty acids necessary for your body but which it can't manufacture. Cold water oily fish such as salmon and tuna are great choices.
3 - Yellow and red onions and shallots fight cancer!! They contain quercetin, a bioflavoniod and antioxidant. It appears to inhibit the growth of tumor cells. Quercetin also helps prevent the release of histamine, thus inhibiting the allergic response common in asthma.
